Adobe Firefly has recently brought more attention to the generative AI space with its high-quality generative fill feature. Dreamstudio has been trained on billions of images and allows for text-to-image, image-to-image, and some other basic features like negative prompting (telling it what you don’t want to see in the output). Dreamstudio is a generative AI image generator from Stability AI that can produce high-quality images right there in your browser. Another nice feature in Dall-E is the variation feature, which allows closely matching variations to be generated from a pilot image that you upload or generate. Leonardo’s canvas feature offers the same functionality as Adobe’s generative fill.
For detailed guidance on downloading Photoshop beta and getting started with Generative Fill, check out Beebom’s in-depth guide here. Photoshop’s Generative Fill does have a few big advantages over DALL-E’s Outpainting, however, especially if you’re already Yakov Livshits a Photoshop user with an Adobe subscription. Can you extend a picture of a person cropped at the chest and end up with something usable? Once again, we’ve used a 1,024-pixel square image, and we’re seeking to extend the image toward the man’s legs.
Basically, don’t expect to just change the color of your wardrobe. And, at present, all AI image generators have issues with hands. In Photoshop, we just overlapped one additional frame and produced a seamless extended frame. Generative Fill is very capable of producing such landscape images. Let’s begin our comparison between Photoshop’s Generative Fill and DALL-E’s Outpainting with the most extreme example; extending the frame from a close-up of an eye.
It also requires access to the Creative Cloud Desktop app and internet access. Since its release, this Photoshop AI tool has been blowing minds due to its revolutionary capabilities. Users are now able to remove and add new subjects to their designs in seconds. As well as expand designs or photos beyond their current constraints.
We played to the strengths of both applications to produce the best results. Accessing photoshop AI generative fill is super straightforward. If you’ve already got one, feel free to jump down to the next Yakov Livshits step. Additionally, the tool is impeccable when it comes to refining portraits. It’s not just about color correction or background changes; it’s also about enhancing the very essence of a portrait.
Press Generative Fill in the floating taskbar and enter a prompt. It ensures there is a seamless transition between the original photo and the AI-generated section. Similarly to removing an object, you can add an object by selecting the area you’d like the thing to be placed and then pressing Generative Fill in the Contextual Task Bar. If you don’t love the experience of using the new floating taskbar, don’t worry, the Photoshop team provides an alternative way to access the Generative Fill feature.

Do you enjoy the improvements brought about by advances in AI but despise the need to learn and adapt to new tools? Adobe got you covered; the king of photo editors now has artificial intelligence (AI)-generated effects. Generative Fill is now supported by Adobe’s Firefly family of creative generative AI models, allowing users to enlarge photos and add or delete objects easily. “Adobe has a long and established history of AI innovation and the exciting new integration of Firefly into Photoshop (beta) will enable creatives to transform the way they work.

Among these options, Pincel stands out as the best alternative to Photoshop’s Generative Fill tool. However, Photoshop comes with a hefty price tag, and as technology advances fast, more efficient and user-friendly alternatives have emerged, catering to the needs of a diverse audience. We tried it out with a few other images and, more often than not, reached the desired effect. We were even surprised to see that you can make multiple changes to a single image.
My impression is that Generative Fill likes to come up with random things that violate Adobe’s guidelines, but it quickly deletes them before you can see them, and then posts that silly warning. WatSon, „violation guidelines”, judged by computer, are a far bigger worry than just not allowing you to add poo (as we Brits call it) to your images. We are only a whisker away from when every image you publish online, or even merely store on Creative Cloud or whatever vault, gets vetted for „Violations”. I simply find it ridiculous to complain about „thought policy” because Photoshop doesn’t let you create fake poop. I’m going to call any radical edits made with it ‘photo-painting’, as it’s a low-effort way of getting impressive results, results that aren’t quite natural, especially when you look close up.
Click and hold on whichever healing tool is visible and select the Remove Tool from the fly-out menu. With generative AI, you never really know what you’re going to get. If you don’t like any of the initial three results, click Generate again in the Properties panel to generate three more. Photoshop sends the file over the internet to Adobe’s AI servers where the magic happens, and a progress bar appears showing how much longer you’ll need to wait. Release your mouse button and Photoshop fills the extra canvas with your Background color, which by default is white. With my image, I want to add more space on the left (the direction the woman is facing).
Want a duskier sky or envisioning a background that’s reminiscent of a tranquil countryside? Simply select the region you wish to alter, provide a concise description of your envisioned scene, and let Generative Fill work its charm. AI Generative Fill is a new feature in Adobe Photoshop that allows you to create stunning video backgrounds with just a few clicks. By describing the background, you want to create, AI Generative Fill will generate a new background for your video.
